Administrative / Biographical History
James Mowat joined William Beardmore & Co Ltd , steel and iron manufacturers, Glasgow, Scotland, on leaving school in 1917 . He was a metallurgist and head of the company's research department. He was appointed technical director in 1954 , a position he held until 1966 .
