Administrative / Biographical History
G Mackay & Co Ltd was registered in January 1908 as a limited liability company to acquire the business of the same name, established in 1867, operating at St Leonard's Brewery, Edinburgh, Scotland. The company was taken over by Gordon & Blair (1923) Ltd, Craigwell Brewery, Edinburgh, in 1954. Seager, Evans & Co Ltd, distillers and wine merchants, London, England, purchased the St Leonard's Brewery in 1960 and re–sold it in 1961 to Watney Mann Ltd, brewers, London, England. Brewing ceased in 1963.

Custodial History
The collection was previously stored with the rest of the Scottish Brewing Archive at Heriot-Watt University. It moved to the University of Glasgow in 1991. Custody of the Scottish Brewing Archive was transferred to Glasgow University Archive Services in 2008.
