Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
On 6 June 1894 , a meeting of coal masters was held in Glasgow, Scotland, to discuss a threatened general miners strike. The meeting was attended by representatives of Coal Masters' Associations from Lanarkshire, Stirlingshire, Aryshire, Fife and Clackmannan, and the Lothians. This meeting led to the creation of a general committee, which held its first meeting on 20 June 1894 . The Committee was responsible for co-ordinating the management response to the strike and it was resolved to resist the calls for higher wages. The committee appears to have continued functioning after 1895, the last minuted meeting in this minute book.
