Administrative / Biographical History

Vera Baird was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, on 16 April 1903. Her father was Dugald Baird who worked as a coal and ironworks manager. She matriculated into the arts faculty at the University of Glasgow in 1921. In her first year she studied French and German at Ordinary Level. In 1922-1923 she studied English and Geology (Ordinary), French, (Higher Ordinary), and was awarded a certificate of merit for French language and literature. In her third year she studied German (Higher Ordinary), and Moral Philosophy and Political Economy (Ordinary). She graduated with an M.A (Ordinary) in July 1924. In the General Council Register for 1930 her occupation was given as a secretary. She later married John C Wilson. She died on 22 Sept 1986.
