Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The first company to be called Percy & Halden Ltd was incorporated in 1909 with head offices in Kinning Park, Glasgow, Scotland, and by the 1950s was a specialist in the manufacture of lubricants and edible oils and fats. In 1953 the company incorporated a subsidiary company, Percy & Halden (Edible Products) Ltd, to take on the edible oils and fats side of the company. In 1963 , Percy & Halden Ltd changed its name to Percy & Halden (Holdings) Ltd and this new company incorporated a new firm called Percy & Halden Ltd as a subsidiary in that year.
The new Percy & Halden Ltd was a private limited company sharing its registered offices with its parent company, Percy & Halden (Holdings) Ltd, in Kinning Park. Percy & Halden Ltd acquired the whole trading assets of Percy & Halden (Holdings) Ltd and its trading liabilities and took on the lubricant side of the business.
The company continued to develop the lubricant trade, producing lubricants for the motor, shipping, steel and textile trades, and also produced solid and semi-solid protectives and hydraulic fluid.
In 1975 , major investment was made in the company through the increase of the company's share capital from £100 to £25,000, with £14,900 of the new share allocation being held by Percy & Halden (Holdings) Ltd. By 1980 , the company was turning a profit of £41,000 even though the industry was in recession. By 1980, Percy & Halden Ltd was divided into two divisions, the lubricants division that carried on the work of Percy & Halden Ltd, and the foods division that carried on the work of Percy & Halden (Edible Products) Ltd, that company now lying dormant. By the late 1980s the company was in decline and in 1997 was disolved.
