Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
The Caledonia Joinery Co Ltd was incorporated in 1920 as a ships joinery company, Port Glasgow, Inverclyde, Scotland . The company was a wholly owned subsidiary of Lithgows Ltd , shipbuilders and repairers, Greenock, Inverclyde , with both William and Henry Lithgow serving as directors.
As a subsidiary of Lithgows Ltd , the Caledonia Joinery Co became part of Scott Lithgow Ltd , shipbuilders, Greenock, following the merger with Scotts' Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd , Greenock, in 1970. To facilitate this merger, Caledonia Joinery Co Ltd became part of the 1969 group of companies, which went on to become Scott Lithgow Ltd .
Nationalised in 1977, the company's business and assets were transferred to Scott Lithgow Ltd in April 1981, as part of British Shipbuilders restructuring programme. The Caledonia Joinery Co was dissolved in 1987.
