Scope and Content

Administrative / Biographical History

From early in the nineteenth century, many railway companies, small and large, were set up to serve Scottish industry as well as the needs of passengers. Half yearly reports relating to some of these early railway companies have been brought together in this collection, along with material relating to the railway industry's trades unions and staff. The collection was brought together by Allan Dunbar (d.c1990), a retired railway foreman and member of the Stephenson Locomotive Society .
