The Spanish Civil War: Air raid
Nazi Germany and fascist Italy were allies of Franco and the Nationalists. The German and Italian air forces bombed Basque towns in the north of Spain. In 1937, almost 4,000 Basque children came to Britain as refugees to escape the bombardment.
