Norway's century of independence
Norway has had a long history of connections with the British Isles. Between the 9th and 13th centuries, Vikings from Norway colonised the Isle of Man, Shetland, the Orkneys, and parts of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
From the 14th century, the nations of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark were combined in various unions. The final union with Denmark was dissolved in 1814, when Norway was ceded to Sweden. This union ended in 1905, and so this year Norway is marking the centenary of its independence.
Gratulerer med dagen, Norge!
