The Norman Lockyer Observatory was established for astronomical research in Sidmouth, Devon in 1912 by Sir Joseph Norman Lockyer (1836-1920), one of the founders of astro-physics.
Right: the Lockyer 6¼-inch refractor (circa 1871). The telescope incorporates the lenses and other parts of Lockyer's original telescope with which he started his ground breaking solar research.
