Letter from Sir William Hamilton to his niece Mary Hamilton, 6 March 1784. Ref. HAM/1/4/4/13. Sir William tells her that the Prince of Wales told him the previous night that he had invited her to a ball and had 'begged' him to repeat his invitation. A few years earlier the adolescent Prince had been infatuated with her.
