World Book Day
Unesco's World Book Day, on Thursday, March 14th, 2002, is about helping children to explore the pleasures of books and reading. The Hub includes archival descriptions for:
- James Blish (1921-1975) American science fiction author
- Jack Common (1903-1968) Tyneside novelist and screenwriter, author of Kiddar's luck
- Walter De la Mare (1873-1956) writer of supernatural tales
- Mervyn Peake (1911-1968) author and illustrator, creator of the 'Gormenghast' novels
- Sol T. Plaatje (1876-1932), author of the first novel in English by a Black South African
- Alison Uttley (1884-1976) creator of the Little Grey Rabbit series of books
