Scope and Content

Files in DCA/14 relate to exhibitions that took place in this country, and especially in the Council"s own London Design Centre. A large proportion are numbered DCA/14/1568. While other files with the file number 1568 are found in other series, those in DCA/14 relate to exhibition planning and progression; the background, organization and administration of exhibitions.

The exhibitions cover a very wide range of themes and issues, from design to engineering and occasionally craft. The later the date, the more likely the exhibition is to reflect more technologically sophisticated products. Everything from domestic design, hobbies and leisure, travel and transport, materials and processes, urban design, disability, colour ranges, Europe, regional and international initiatives, engineering, computing, research and development is covered, and much more besides.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Council committed to a vigorous programme of exhibitions in support of the educational aims of its agenda. Those that took place in this country, and especially in the Council"s own London Design Centre are sited in DCA/14 and a large proportion are numbered DCA/14/1568.

Arrangement

The surviving files have been retained in their original numeric order as allocated by the Council"s Registry. This means that records in a series do not necessarily have consecutive file numbers, and may not be located together.
