Douglas Clark was born in 1891 at Ellenborough, Cumberland.  Clark was a holder of the World Wrestling Championship as well as a member of the Huddersfield 'Team of all the Talents'. He played in Rugby League's most famous test match in 1914 when the British tourists defeated Australia 14 points to 6 despite playing with only ten men at one stage. Clark played much of this test with a badly broken thumb before being forced off with a dislocated shoulder.
