EAD Editor help
Accessing the EAD Editor
Location
The EAD Editor can be found at
https://editor.archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/editor
Login Required
You are required to log into the EAD Editor. This is because the Editor enables you to temporarily store files while you are working on them. This area is known as the Draft Files Store. You can keep 50 descriptions in your Draft Files Store at any one time. You can request this limit to be increased to 100.
We will issue an administrator login for each institution. The administrator can create other usernames and assign descriptions to them. Only the administrator can edit and export descriptions belonging to other usernames. All users can see the names of all the EAD descriptions in the process of being edited or created by all users to help prevent problems with duplicate files.
Please email the Archives Hub for access if your institution does not already have a login.
Guest/trial login
If you would like to try the Editor we can provide you with a temporary login. Please email email the Archives Hub for more information. This will allow you to try out all the functions of the EAD Editor, including creating and saving EAD descriptions. Descriptions saved in temporary logins will be deleted periodically.
Please see our workshops page for links to walkthroughs and information about all aspects of the EAD Editor.
Javascript
The EAD Editor uses AJAX to create a dynamic experience, and therefore you will need Javascript enabled on your browser (the option to enable Javascript is usually found in the Tools menu of your browser).
Browser compatibility
You may use the following browsers:
- Internet Explorer version 7 or later (not version6)
- Firefox
- Chrome (which does not support native XML, so you would need to use the 'view source' option to see the EAD markup)
- Safari (for a Mac)
