Administrative / Biographical History

George Leopold Schwartz 1891 - 1983

George Schwartz was educated at Varndean School, Brighton, and St Paul'sTraining College, Cheltenham. He served in army during World War I. After thewar he studied at the London School of Economics 1918 - 1921. He wassecretary of the London Cambridge Economics Service, 1923, and Ernest Cassellecturer, London University, 1929. Leopold also assisted Sir Arnold Plant(1898 - 1978), with the Wartime Social Survey, 1940. He went on to becomeDeputy city editor of the Sunday Times and economic adviser to Kemsleynewspapers, 1944 - 61. He was editor of Bankers Magazine, 1945 - 54, andcontributed a column on economic affairs to Sunday Times, 1961 - 71.Schwartz was also an Honorary Fellow of the LSE.

His publications include:
