Administrative / Biographical History

On the 29th July 1841 at Boston, USA, a meeting including members of theAmerican Peace Society suggested that a conference should be held in Londonto 'consult on the measures adapted to promote universal peace amongst thenations of the earth'. The committee of the London Peace Society approvedthis suggestion, and a conference took place on 14th May 1842 consisting ofabout 70 individuals who agreed that a convention of 'persons from differentnations (should meet) to deliberate upon the best means, under the Divineblessing, to show the world the evil and inexpediency of the spirit and topromote permanent and universal peace'.
