Scope and Content
The archive comprises records relating to the productions and administration of Tiata Fahodzi and is divided into two series. The first series comprises records relating to the creative and administrational aspects of the company and is catalogued in chronological order, and by production or event. The second series comprises records relating to the overall management of the company and includes documents relating to applications for external funding, material relating to education and outreach projects, and a collection of photographs documenting the company's productions and events. The collection is mainly paper-based, but also includes sound recordings from one of its productions.
Administrative / Biographical History
Tiata Fahodzi is a theatre company founded in 1997 by Femi Elufowoju, jr, who was its artistic director until 2010. The name derives from the Yoruba and Twi languages of West Africa and translates as "theatre of the emancipated". The aim of the company is to "convey, celebrate and challenge the cultural experiences of Africans living in the United Kingdom". The company commissions and develops new writing as well as reinterpreting African and European classics. It stages one major production each year as well as presenting new, emerging talent through initiatives such Tiata Delights, a festival of playreadings and performances of new writing.

Conditions Governing Access
This collection is available for consultation in the V&A Department of Theatre & Performance's Reading Room, which is located at Blythe House, 23 Blythe Road, Olympia, London, W14 0QX. The Reading Room is open Tuesday to Friday between 10.15 am and 4.30 pm, access to it is by appointment only.

Administrative / Biographical History
Booked! was performed over four weeks at The Tabernacle and Oval House, London. It tells the story of six young immigrants to Great Britain who on arriving in London are confronted by a range of idiosyncratic scenarios which hinder their attempt to assimilate the culture of their host country.

Administrative / Biographical History
Bonded! was written by Nigerian playwright Sesan Ogunlegun and commissioned in June 1998 by Femi Elufowoju, jr, artistic director of Tiata Fahodzi, with a commission award from the Arts Council of England. The play charts the friendship between two young women, Dolapo and Caramel in Nigeria and England, and the abduction of Dolapo by a mysterious man.

This section contains records of the production of Abyssinia, a play commissioned from playwright Adewale Ajadi, by Tiata Fahodzi. The play is based on the true story of Prince Amalayou, a young Ethiopian prince who lived with Queen Victoria after the death of his father, King Theodore in 1868, and who dies at the age of eighteen under mysterious circumstances.
