Administrative / Biographical History

H Forsyth Hardy (1910-1994 ) was born in Bathgate, West Lothian and educated at Bathgate Academy. He became the first film critic of the Scotsman in  1929 . He was one of the founders of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in  1947 . After a period of 15 years in the Scottish Office working on film production, he became Director of Films of Scotland (1955 ) and over a period of 20 years raised the finance for 150 films. Following his retirement in  1975 , Hardy went on to write several texts on  John Grierson (1898-1972 ) and Scottish film. He was an accomplished broadcaster and speaker and was appointed an OBE.
