Administrative / Biographical History
Norah Christina Jolliffe was born in 1900, the daughter of Arthur Jolliffe, fellow and tutor of Corpus Christi College, Oxford. She was educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College and came up to Girton in 1918 to read Classics as a Higgins Scholar. After several teaching and lecturing posts, the last at Royal Holloway College as Senior Lecturer in Classics, she returned to Girton to direct studies in Classics and in Archaeology and Anthropology from 1936 until her death in 1951. Her published work concerns Roman Britain.

Access is open to bona fide scholars by appointment only.
Acquisition Information
The Jolliffe papers were deposited in Girton College Archive by Alison Duke, who had taken over as Director of Studies in Classics in 1951 and kept them in her College room. Miss Duke assisted in the identification and interpretation of some of the papers.
