The letters are to Grant Reid refusing biographical information. There is also a cutting with illustration engraved by Ralston Christmas in Australia.

Administrative / Biographical History

The illustrator William Ralston was born in 1848. He exhibited in London from 1875 and he contributed to Punch and to The Graphic. One notable cartoon is of The ultimate Cunarder showing a vast exaggeratedly long four-funnelled ocean liner of the period complete with St.Paul's Cathedral and other buildings within its superstructure, sailing at full-steam down St. George's Channel. Ralston had lived in Glasgow. William Ralston died in November 1911.
