Administrative / Biographical History

Aberdeen Association of Civil Engineers was established in Dec 1900, with the broad objectives of promoting the interests of the profession in the city and district of Aberdeen. Based upon the lines of the Civil Engineers in London, it was intended to provide an opportunity for members to exchange professional ideas, and to provide assistance to students and young members of the profession living and working in the city. Its establishment coincided with the foundation of a chair of Engineering in the University of Aberdeen. Meetings, held at Gordon's College (later Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology, now Robert Gordon's University) attracted an early membership of around 70 individuals.
