Scope and Content

Comprises a minute book of the Caernarfonshire County Herb Committee, 1942-1946 and a folder of leaflets and press cuttings recording the work done by the Committee during World War II organising the collection of medicinal plants by school children and others etc.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Caernarfonshire County Herb Committee was formed at the University of Wales, Bangor in March 1942 by representatives of various organisations interested in the medicinal use of herbs and plants, particularly in wartime. Participating organisations included the Botanical Department at the University, the Local Education Committee, the Rural Community Council, the Women's Institute, and the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements. During World War II the Directorate of Medical Supplies at the Ministry of Supply sponsored the Committee which disbanded in 1946.
