      1 vol. (186 ff.) Modern pencil foliation. The following folios are blank: 3-6, 22-5, 38-41, 47-62, 64-5, 81-5, 88, 91-116, 125-143, 146-167, 171, 174, 176-9, 181-3. Ff.7-167 have contemporary foliation 1-162. On f.1r is the inscription "A. Higgin me possidet preciu 8"; also, "Anthony Higgin me iure possidet" and the signature "Iames Lansford". Damaged by damp. Rebound in boards ca.1820.

Contains: (1) f.2r: short note in English; (2) f.7: E varijs lectionibus Celij Rhodigini - De Adulatore; (3) ff.8-44: E quinto libro Politicorum Aristotelis, notes with ff.21-37 in Greek; (4) f.63r: "Oratio habita 16 Aprilis 1617, cum regia maiestas Ripponiam veniret", 6 lines only, Greek and Latin, of greeting to King James I, on the occasion of his visit to Ripon, when he was "addressed by Dean Higgin in a learned speech"; (5) f.66r: Ex Aristotelis topicorum 2o, Locus sextus; (6) f.67: Fortuna nulla, 21 Martij 1576; (7) f.72: Philosophiae cognitio futuro theologo non negligenda, Maij 29 1577; (8) ff.77-8: copy of a letter in Latin describing a tour in Nottinghamshire, including visits to the family of Molyneux and of Byron of Newstead. The letter is signed "Pupillus tuus tibi multis nominibus devotissimus A.H." Administrative / Biographical History

Anthony Higgin (d. 1624), the son of Thomas Higgin of Manchester, was educated at St John's College, Cambridge, where he became a Fellow in 1574. In 1583 he became rector of Kirk Deighton near Wetherby in Yorkshire, and in 1608 he was appointed Dean of Ripon an appointment he held until his death. He collected books extensively throughout his life, and left them to the church at Ripon when he died. The surviving part of his collection, which numbers about 1250 volumes, is now preserved in Leeds University Library as part of Ripon Cathedral Library.
