Geoffrey Woledge was a graduate of the University of Leeds, who began his professional career in librarianship in 1919, as an assistant in the University Library, remaining in Leeds until 1931. After a number of appointments he became Librarian at Queen's, Belfast in 1938, and finally became Librarian of the British Library of Political and Economic Science from 1944 until retirement in 1966
