Comprises: (1) Manuscript diaries of tours in the South of France (1936), Russia (1933), and Germany (1946); (2) Photographs of a visit to Germany in 1920-1921 and a photograph album of a motor tour in France and Spain in 1937; (3) Harvey's passport issued in 1935 and cancelled in 1940; (4) Diary of events on the Continent in 1914 just prior to World War 1; (5) Manuscript notes on philosophy, religion, and Freudian psychology; also, notes for lectures in exercise books; (6) Some correspondence, earliest date being 1912; (7) Typescript report of enquiry by Harvey into the problem of the 'approved schools', 1955/56; (8) Poetry by Harvey; (9) Papers and correspondence concerning the International Voluntary Service for Peace, 1944-1966; (10) Miscellaneous Quaker notes and German press-cuttings on Quakers, 1920; (11) Typescript copy of Harvey's statement of conscientious objection to military service given to a tribunal in 1916, together with the tribunal's reply granting him exemption on condition that he serve in the Friends Ambulance Unit; (12) A homemade word game invented by Harvey held in an envelope; (13) A copy of the University of Leeds Review, December 1955.

Administrative / Biographical History

John Wilfred Harvey was Professor of Philosophy in the University of Leeds from 1932 to 1954, and also served as Pro-Vice Chancellor.
