Correspondence and literary papers associated with The Review magazine, including material relating to its symposium 'The State of Poetry'

Comprises: Box 1, autograph manuscript and typescript correspondence arranged A-Z by author largely between the editor, Ian Hamilton, and poets submitting work for publication dated 1962-1972, and similar correspondence relating to poetry readings and fund-raising; Box 2, autograph typescripts and manuscripts of over fifty articles submitted to The Review for publication arranged A-Z by author, including those submitted for the final joint issue (numbers 29-30) in 1972, the symposium on 'The State of Poetry'; Box 3, typescripts of ca. 55 poems by some 21 authors, both English and American, submitted to The Review, together with a draft of an anthology, Powers, edited by Michael Fried; Box 4, printed copies of the complete run of The Review, issues 1-30 (1962-1972); and Box 5, advertising copy for The Review, some galley proofs of various poems, and a few financial accounts for the magazine.

The Review was one of the most successful British literary 'little magazines' devoted to poetry and enjoyed a ten-year period of publication from 1962 to 1972, edited by the poet Ian Hamilton. Its focus was contemporary English and American poetry. It was succeeded in 1974 by The New Review.
