Gilbert Foyle Dickens Collection

Scope and Content

A collection of 33 titles, as part works. The parts for each title are held in labelled boxes.

Administrative / Biographical History

A collection of Dickens first editions, the works remain in the original serialised form, complete with advertisements. Most of the works are complete, and the collection includes an edition of Household Words, the magazine edited by Dickens.

Access Information

Items in the collection may be consulted for the purpose of private study and personal research, within the controlled environment and restrictions of the Library's Special Collections Reading Rooms.

Acquisition Information

It was deposited with the University of Sussex Library by Estbourne Borough Council in 1988.

Custodial History

The collection originally belonged to Gilbert Foyle, who donated it to Eastbourne Borough in 1964. It was deposited with the University of Sussex Library by Estbourne Borough Council in 1988.
