Scope and Content

Commonplace book of Philip Bliss containing a compilation of critical comments on 'the most celebrated Authors & Artists', c. 1770-80; notes on the Bliss family genealogy, and on the Gloucestershire livings held by them, c. 1795-1800, with some additions by his son Philip Bliss (1787-1857) to 1825; miscellaneous verse, epitaphs, recipes and memoranda, c. 1770-80; and a treatise in Latin by W. Purefoy on logic, with other memoranda, c. 1720.

Administrative / Biographical History

Rev. Philip Bliss (1742-1803) was Rector of Dodington and Frampton Cotterell in Gloucestershire.
