Scope and Content

8 manuscript letters written by the Russian Professor, Vasili Vasilievich Stroganoff to the British obstetrician, Professor James Haig Ferguson between 1928 and 1929 concerning chiefly the translation into English and publication of Stroganoff's book 'The Improved Prophylactic Method in the Treatment of Eclampsia', and also covering his mortality rates in managing eclampsia.

Administrative / Biographical History

Professor Vasili Vasilievich Stroganoff was a Russian professor of obstetrics based in Leningrad. He published 'The Improved Prophylactic Method in the Treatment of Eclampsia' (1930: New York. William Wood & Co.)

James Haig Ferguson was born in 1862 and educated in Edinburgh, graduating in 1884. As a general practitioner, he specialised in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Infirmary and Royal Maternity Hospital, Edinburgh, and he opened a hostel for antenatal care in Edinburgh Royal Maternity Hospital in 1899. He died in 1934.
