Scope and Content

A collection of manuscript letters sent to Professor Alexander Russell Simpson of Edinburgh University between 1880 and 1900 from Professors of Obstetrics at home and overseas responding to his query concerning the development of different schools of obstetrics; together with reprints of lectures given by Simpson to the Obstetrical Society of Edinburgh (1878-1893), and a paper by Ian Cope FRCOG entitled 'The other Professor Simpson of Edinburgh, Professor Alexander Russell Simpson, 1835-1916' which utilises excerpts from the collection to form a biographical account of Professor Alexander Simpson.

Administrative / Biographical History

Left to Dr Ian Cope, FRCOG, of Australia. The papers came from the estate of Professor F J Browne, who had worked with Professor Ballantyne, who authored Simpson's obituary.
