York St John University Historical Archive

The College archive was established by Dr John Addy in the 1970s and is responsible for the management of the College's archive collection, and for the provision of a records management service to administrative and academic departments. The collection of historical archives relates to the history of the College and personalities and activities associated with it.

We continue to strengthen existing collections on the history of the institution and its background, including relevant biographical material, and collect material relevant to the history of education, particularly Church colleges.

The collection contains valuable material relating to the National Society from 1812. The bulk of the collection is made up from documents, photographs, architectural plans, etc. pertaining to the administration and academic provision of St John's College, York, from its founding in 1841, and Ripon Training College, founded in 1862, up to the merging of the two colleges in 1976.

The whole of the historical archive is available on the Hub.
