V&A Theatre and Performance Collections

The V&A Department of Theatre and Performance holds the UK's national collection of material about live performance in the UK since Shakespeare's day, covering drama, dance, musical theatre, circus, music hall, rock and pop, and other forms of live entertainment. Between 1987 and 2007 some of this material was housed at the former Theatre Museum in Covent Garden as one of the V&A's branch museums, but this has since moved back into the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The V&A Department of Theatre and Performance continues to expand its extensive archival holdings documenting UK theatre and live performance. Good relationships within the performance sector ensure, that the national performance heritage is captured, preserved and made available, now and in the future.

All archival collections are available for access and research at the V&A Reading Room at Blythe House, near Kensington Olympia, London.
