University of Chichester
The current archive is made up of seven collections of which five are currently being made available to the Archives Hub. The five collections available are entitled: Bishop Otter College, Bognor Regis College, University College Chichester, Ted Walker Archive, and the John Fines Collection.
Historically the collections of the former Bishop Otter College and Bognor Regis College prior to their merger have been well preserved and highlight the history and development of these two very distinctive colleges prior to their merger. Both of these collections include photographic records as well as college publications, development plans and artefacts.
The University College Chichester collection records the development of the college from 1977 when following the merger of the two former colleges it become the West Sussex Institute of Higher Education. In 1995 the college changed its name to Chichester Institute of Higher Education before becoming the University College Chichester in 2000. In 2005 full University status was granted and the college was then re-named the University of Chichester. These major changes in the college's development are all well documented in the University College Chichester's collection along with documents relating to social and educational changes.
The Ted Walker and John Fines collections have both been deposited with the University College Chichester for safekeeping. The Ted Walker Archive includes published works, scripts etc, relating to the work of Ted Walker a well-known Sussex poet, storywriter and dramatist. The John Fines collection was deposited with the college after the death of this respected lecturer in history. This collection includes both published and draft works by John Fines.
The two collections not currently available to the archive are the Gerard Young Collection, housed at the West Sussex Record Office and the Bishop Kemp Archive, a new deposit, which is still being collated. However, information on these collections may be become available to the Archives Hub in the future.
