Salford City Archive holds the administrative records of Salford City and the inclusive districts of Eccles, Worsley, Irlam, Swinton and Pendlebury, and Little Hulton. The collections include surviving Parish and Township records, School Management records and those of the Guardians of the Poor. There is also a substantial collection of records relating to local families, businesses and organisations.
The Bridgewater Estates archive is also housed here and catalogued on The National Archives.
A recent addition to the collection is the Pilkington’s collection. This collection was purchased for the archive by the Friends of Salford Museum and Art Gallery and records the business and production of Pilkington’s of Clifton ceramic tiles.
It is our intention to add the Parish records and the Pilkington’s collection to the Hub along with any newly catalogued collections within the archive.
Most archive catalogue descriptions are available on Pastfinder and item level catalogues are available for consultation in the Salford Local History Library.
The archive is housed within the Salford Museum and Art Gallery and can be accessed by appointment with the archivist or via the Local History Library housed within the same building.
