Islington Local History Centre

The story of Islington from Anglo-Saxon village to major urban area is told through the unique collections at Islington Local History Centre.

Our special collections include records of Sadler's Wells Theatre, the Royal Agricultural Hall and Dove Brothers builders, as well as personal papers of the artists Walter Sickert and Geoffrey Fletcher and the Islington library bookcovers defaced by writer Joe Orton and his partner Kenneth Halliwell. We also hold records of a wide range of organisations and individuals connected to the borough.

A small number of descriptions are available on the Archives Hub and more will be added shortly. Information about our other collections, including local authority records, can be found on our website.
