Glasgow Caledonian University

The Archives and Special Collections at Glasgow Caledonian University are part of the Library's Research Collections and with the exception of the Institutional Archive, the University Library has been developing its archive holdings since 1993.

The repository has a large Institutional Archive which not only provides insight into the history of education in Scotland from the Victorian era through to the new universities of the 1990s and beyond, but also provides social history relating to Glasgow and the west of Scotland. It is particularly strong on women's education and the area of domestic science and work during WWI and WWII. There also exists various deposited student collections which enhance this Archive - eg Christina W Bell Collection, Mollie Gofton Collection.

The Archives also house various other deposited collections that enhance the research and curricula needs of the University. The main subject areas covered are Scottish politics and political organisation, Scottish trade union activity, social work and social services in Scotland, child welfare in Scotland, pressure groups, and apartheid and Southern African politics.

Glasgow Caledonian University will be submitting around 100 fonds and sub-fonds descriptions to the Archives Hub.
