Borthwick Institute for Archives (University of York)

The Borthwick Institute for Archives is one of the biggest archive repositories outside London holding archives from all around the world, from the 12th century to the present day. Collections include the papers of the Diocese of York and the University of York, but also company papers (such as Rowntree & Co.), the records of the York Health Trust family papers (including those of the earls of Halifax) and many other private and institutional collections. Formerly housed at the medieval guild hall of St Anthony the Hermit, in 2004 the Institute moved to a purpose-built archive repository on the outskirts of York in Heslington, adjacent to the University of York's J.B. Morrell Library.
